Miguel Álvarez del Toro Zoo

It was founded by Eliseo Palacios for the study and conservation of regional wildlife. It bears the name in honor of the man who was its director. It is located in the middle of an area covered by medium-height jungle, which provides a habitat similar to the original one. The species exhibited there are specimens of regional wildlife and endangered species, which makes this zoo the most important of its kind in the country; quetzal, tapir, macaws, jaguars, spider monkey, curassow, otters, spiders and insects are just some of the species found there. A visit to the ZooMAT is one of the greatest experiences of any trip through Chiapas.
