Avenue of the Indigenous Cultures
A modern access route to important public, administrative, and educational spaces of the city; a tourist route that lets you get to know the soul and essence of the Chiapan people through 7 sculptures representing the diverse living cultures of the State.
Along the route you can see: A Ceiba tree / a Chamula man / a rabbit / an advising mother wearing the typical clothing of the municipality of Oxchuc / a traditional Tojolabal family, in which the mother teaches her daughter to weave and the father carries a net full of corn cobs / two women, one from San Juan Chamula and one from Chenalò, representing the Tzotzil ethnic group; and finally a great 6-meter sculpture where you will find the face of an Indigenous woman at the center of the earth, accompanied by the Maya man and by diverse elements such as: the head of an eagle, the mouth of a jaguar, and a ball game; this last one is called “I am Chiapas.”
